TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK

Posted on: Wednesday

We met our dear friends at Tompkins Square Park the other day to celebrate the birthday of their gorgeous little one, Ava, who was born just three days after Biet.  We all met in our Bradley class when these babes were still in our bellies, and have done our best to meet up every now and again for playdates.  This one was the best yet.

The whole park was in bloom and brimming with summertime energy. They brought home-pressed cherry juice and baked amazing mini cakes for a little picnic.  It was really a beautiful afternoon.

Biet and Ava, for the first time, really played with one another (and with the dirt on the ground and with the toys and with their food), and it was magical.  They had so much fun. Biet, who sadly never ever gets a chance to play with balls (thanks to a certain pit bull who goes crazy for anything of a spherical shape), adored playing catch with Ava.  She fell in love with that pink bouncy ball.

And it turns out that Nico has given Biet some useful experience in the world of sharing.  Ava had a great time sitting in for Nico and letting Biet feed her over and over and over.. one bite for Biet, one bite for Nico Ava.  Just like at home, except instead of driving me crazy it was kind of the cutest thing ever.

After our farewells Gaby and I walked in between the two big trees where we were married and reminisced a bit.  My how much has changed since that winter afternoon three and a half years ago... it truly just keeps getting better.

Hi, I just discovered your blog a few days ago when I googled top baby blogs. i love it! I have read it from start to finish and it has kept me entertained through many a breastfeeding session!

I love NYC ( in a tourist capacity!) and love seeing your fab pics of real life in the city. I truly admire your parenting style, you seem so confident. My baby is only 3 wks old and i wonder if i will ever be like that!

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Wow! Thank you! I can't believe you read everything from the beginning. That is exactly what I used to do with other blogs in the first postpartum weeks when Biet was nursing round the clock. Then I decided to try writing one myself. A part of me misses all of the down time of having a wee brand new little one.

Thanks for reading and for commenting! You made my day!

  3. Looks like such fun. My Wyatt is obsessed with those playground balls and has taken to carrying them around the house at all times. They are fun and the girls are adorable with that pink one!

    1. How I wish that Biet could carry one around the house and play with it! Nico is obsessed with balls and will pop ANYTHING even shaped like a ball (tomatoes, balloons, apples)... so Biet sadly cannot enjoy them inside.

We actually have a giant pink ball that she received for her birthday hidden away in a closet. I am waiting for a dog-free excursion to the beach to bring it out. :)

  4. Beautiful :) I'm sure your lovely subjects help out a little but your photos are amazing. Are you self taught?
I love that you married in that park.My husband and I got married in an old cinema and we take great pleasure in being able to visit and reflect :)

    1. That sounds beautiful! I have a fascination with old cinemas and theaters.. they are so majestic and gorgeous. There is a boarded up old theater from the turn of the century here in Brooklyn a few blocks from our home and I always walk by it and dream of living there.

I am self-taught (and still learning) in photography. I love the medium and try to take my camera everywhere to get in practice and hopefully capture some great shots. I am hoping to venture into the realm of self-portraits soon.

  5. Hi! I'm so behind--I'm just getting around to visiting some of the other moms who landed in the Top 25 Moms with Style on Circle of Moms. And congrats on landing second place! Amazing!

I always love contests like that because I find so many new blogs to read--and yours is a beauty! That first photo is stunning!

I'll be following along now and would love to have you stop by the Reverie blog any time!

    1. Isn't it amazing! I can see them becoming two little people, two little New Yorkers, who create their own interactions and experiences in the world, and it is just unbelievable to me. That little tiny baby of mine is growing into a real girl!

    1. I am so grateful to have these women and to let our children grow together! Taking the Bradley classes while pregnant was one of the best things we could have done, for us and for Biet!
